Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is a type of software that helps people create detailed drawings and designs on a computer. It’s like using a digital drawing tool to make plans for buildings, machines, roads, or other things that need to be built or made. CAD is used in many fields, like architecture, engineering, and manufacturing
A CAD technician uses computers and special software to create detailed drawings and plans for things like buildings, bridges, roads, and machines. They help engineers, architects, and designers turn their ideas into designs that can be built or made. Here are some of their main tasks:
- Use computer software to make accurate and detailed drawings of projects.
- Work from sketches or ideas given by engineers or architects and turn them into digital plans. Make changes to drawings as projects progress or as new information comes in.
- Check their designs to make sure everything fits correctly and follows the rules.
- Assist in planning projects by creating visuals that show how everything will fit together.
Here are some types of projects CAD technicians work on:
- Roadways
- Utilities
- Site development
- Construction
- 3D modeling

Requirements
- Must be a senior in 2024/2025 school year
- Must remain on track to graduate by end of 2024/2025 school year
- Must remain in good standing with your school
- Must be punctual and have excellent attendance throughout school year and any existing employment
- Must maintain safe work practices at all times
- Must have reliable transportation by April 30th of 2025 to use for field visits in southeastern WI
- Must obtain a valid driver’s license by April 30th of 2025
- Must pass drug/alcohol screenings prior to beginning of program
- Be engaged and show dedication to your training
- Show respect to the skilled workers training and supervising you
- Respond in a timely manner with all required paperwork and requests
- Comply with Kapur company policies and Youth Apprenticeship Program Agreement
- During the summer months, must work a 40 hour work week – 8 hours per day between the hours of 7AM and 5PM
- Position is in office – no remote work allowed
- No degree is required but it is encouraged to continue education beyond high school diploma
