Location: Calgary, AB & Vancouver, BC
Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000

Are you an experienced mechanical designer with expertise in HVAC and plumbing systems? Join our dynamic team and help lead the design of innovative mechanical systems for various exciting new construction and renovation projects. We're looking for a highly motivated Intermediate/Senior Mechanical Designer to contribute to our projects, mentor junior designers, and collaborate with other experts in the field.
Primary Objective:
As an Intermediate/Senior Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for designing mechanical HVAC and plumbing systems for a wide range of projects. You'll work alongside project managers, senior engineers, and other design professionals to ensure quality, accuracy, and timely project delivery. Additionally, you will mentor and oversee the work of junior designers and engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
Design Leadership: Lead the detailed design of mechanical HVAC and plumbing systems for projects of varying sizes and complexities.
Mentorship & Coaching: Supervise and mentor Mechanical Designers and Intermediate Mechanical Designers. Review their work and provide guidance before final submission to project managers or senior staff.
Project Coordination: Collaborate with other design disciplines to coordinate mechanical systems, ensuring designs meet project specifications and schedules.
Technical Guidance: Provide technical support to clients, sub-consultants, and project team members.
Construction Support: Participate in construction site reviews and ensure compliance with design requirements.
Document Preparation: Prepare schematic design, design development, and construction documents, ensuring adherence to company standards.
Equipment Selection: Work with suppliers and manufacturers to select and specify mechanical equipment.
Quality Control: Perform detailed checks on your own work and assist in peer reviews to ensure the accuracy of designs.
Budget & Timeline Management: Track project progress, including resources, schedules, and budgets, and provide updates to the project manager.
Continuous Improvement: Help improve workflows and design standards to meet the company’s high-quality objectives.
Performance Metrics:
Achieve a target utilization rate of 95% for billable hours.
Complete 30+ professional development hours annually.
Review and adhere to company standards for design and drafting practices.
Ensure all project deadlines are met and designs are completed on or under budget.
Maintain high standards for communication with clients and team members.
Experience & Qualifications:
Education: A diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology is preferred.
Certifications: Professional accreditation (CET, P.Tech, E.I.T., etc.) is strongly encouraged.
Experience: 3+ years of experience in mechanical HVAC and plumbing design, including experience with AutoCAD, REVIT, and related design software.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection), as well as relevant codes and standards.
Leadership Skills: Experience in mentoring and supervising junior staff or project teams.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Software Proficiency: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, REVIT, and Bluebeam.
