Network Administrator / Operations Center Support

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. We are seeking an experienced Network Administrator/Operations Center Support (Network Professional) to join our Networks Operations Center on the swing shift position and assist with firmware and hardware upgrades and replacements, troubleshoot network outages and complex issues and assist with the implementation and maintenance of LANL's monitoring tools on open and classified networks. Our NIE-CS is a customer-focused group with the primary duty to monitor and maintain all LANL network assets on a 24/7 basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation; applicable advanced vendor or professional certification is desirable
  • Demonstrated experience configuring and maintaining network devices
  • Troubleshoot enterprise network environments and restoring network services as quickly as possible
  • Advanced knowledge of network protocols (IP, VLANS, spanning-tree, BGP, OSPF)
  • Experience replacing and upgrading network equipment. (hardware and software)
  • Demonstrated experience deploying, configuring, and maintaining network monitoring tools and applications.
  • Experience designing, planning, and implementing networks environments.
  • Experience with capturing network traffic and running network traffic analysis via packet capture software

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience using network management tools, including viewing / creating alarms, configuration management and troubleshooting syslog information
  • Experience Cisco & Arista switches and routers.
  • Experience with creating / modifying network Diagrams (Visio, Office)
  • Experience administering and troubleshooting Enterprise-level wireless
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with customers and other staff (technical and non-technical)
  • experience with incident management
  • Cisco Certifications / Juniper Certifications

  • This is a swing shift position with possible hours of 3pm-11:30pm / 3-12:30pm
